Analysis of Etiological Factors Between Bilateral and Unilateral Chronic Sinusitis
Lee Jae-Hoon

Abstract
Background: Generally, the large proportion of chronic sinusitis is bilaterally affected sinus lesion but a considerable number of unilateral sinus lesions can be occurred with variant etiologies.

Methods: A retrospective clinical study was perfomed in 37 patients from april 1999 through October 1999.

Results: The major proportion of bilateral sinus lesions are simple chronic sinusitis with polyp but the proportion of unilateral sinus lesions are varient etiologies, for example, simple polyp, cystic or tumorous disorders, fungal sinusitis and antrochoanal polyp.

Conclusions: These results suggest that unilateral chronic sinusitis can have different etiologies. Therefore, in case of unilateral chronic sinusitis we need to have further evaluation and proper treatment.
